Re-Machined - 'Wheels Of Time'

(Pride & Joy)

Before I knew where these guys originated from, I had guessed it was probably Germany, I wasn’t wrong, Re-Machined craft songs reminiscent of the burgeoning Eighties German melodic metal scene. I was a little surprised to discover that ‘Wheels of Time’ is Re-Machined’s debut album as they do sound like a band in full flow – While I’d guess this isn’t any of the musicians involved first rodeo as the songs hit you like a well-oiled machine. I’d be genuinely surprised if the core song writers of this band hadn’t been working together for some time now. The quality production provided by Markus Teske who has worked with Saga, U.D.O and The News Roses boosts the impact of this album, making sure these songs have the biggest possible impact on listeners.

Thomas Ritter’s vocals are scratchy and remind me of Udo (Accept) and in some instances Rob Halford (Judas Priest) as those two names suggest vocally Re-Machined may be an acquired taste, but undeniably perfect for this style of Metal.

There is some stunning musicianship on display especially from lead guitarist’s Andreas Glanz and Horst Pflaumer who provide soaring solo’s and melodic metal riffage which pays homage to Judas Priest.

Re-machined are definitely inspired by NWOBHM with their rampant guitar riffs and energetic drums and bass guitar. It’s anthemic metal complete with big melodious choruses that have an instant impact that will make this album a sure-fire hit with metal fans.

Album opener ‘Heart On Fire’ is magnificent and it’s their commercial hit single. It’s a pulsing melodic metal track with a massive anthemic chorus which is undeniably memorable. Another highlight is ‘Brother Sun, Sister Moon’ it’s got a chugging riff that powers the song, an insanely effective guitar hook in the verses which leads to a booming chorus which is the cherry on top of this blazing metal tune.

‘Wheels of Time’ is a really strong bombastic melodic metal album in the tradition of Accept and Judas Priest but it’s not perfect and there are a few tracks which lack the impact of the majority of the others. Fans of Eighties metal will eat this up, especially those with a penchant for Traditional German metal! Those that lament that distant era, will be thrilled by what Re-Machined have created here, but be warned it demands you play it LOUD!
