Motorjesus – ‘Hellbreaker’

(AFM Records)

‘Hellbreaker’ the latest album from rising German rockers Motorjesus is loud and brash with strong powerful direct choruses. These songs are punchy, energetic, stimulating and the band deliver a satisfying dose of rock n roll. The band are at the extremely heavy end of the rock spectrum but do not cross fully into metal territory. Germany seems to produce bands that can crank the beer-soaked rock n roll energy up without becoming inaccessible to non-metal fans in abundance.

The album as a whole is explosive and energising and given its heavy slant it is aggressive but always keeps melodious as much as the drive or punch of each individual track allows.

It’s not as commercial as I would normally salivate over but for this brand of heavy rock their choruses are a lot more radio friendly than those of their peers, like Mustach for example. A song like ‘Dead Rising’ to name just one elevates them above other bands within the same genre and given its infectiousness could easily make them one of the most popular bands within the German heavy rock scene.

Given the potency of these songs I’d sell my left arm for the opportunity to see them storm the live stage! Add to this the fact they have already built up a strong reputation as a monster live act only makes the prospect of a live show even more enticing. The shout along choruses, head swirling guitar riffs and that pulsating energy are the very tasty ingredients to a killer live show recipe.

The guttural vocals may not be for everyone but for Motorjesus and their style it’s important to the impact and energy of their songs. I think most fans of this genre are perfectly fine with booming and rough vocals and its delivery, but obviously some vocalists are better than others and in vocalist Chris ‘Howling’ Brix they definitely have one of the best!

The album is full on high intensity explosive heavy rock and written purposefully that way, so if you don’t like the soppy ballads or slow meandering rockers this one will definitely tickle your fancy. ‘Hellbreaker’ is far from been a classic but Motorjesus have still provided us with a very strong, and more importantly, enjoyable slab of extra heavy bombastic Rock! It’s definitely worth rockers time to crank up loud with a beer and rocking’ out till the hours too.
