IMKT – ‘Sooner Or Later’
(Good Time Music)
IMKT’s ‘Sooner Or Later’ is the first English language album from vocalist Katie Bormann. She has quite a musical heritage behind her but for many myself included this may be the first time you’ve heard any of her music with her previous output been in German.
I was taken with this album from the outset; I adore songs like these this is my type of melodic rock to a T! It’s extremely feel good and I found myself frequently smiling with every chorus or uplifting musical moment. It’s emotive without been overly sentimental or cheesy but heartfelt enough to draw me in and give the songs more appeal and impact to my personal tastes. This is the soundtrack to the summer type music its upbeat and makes you feel blissful and joyful. Good music is all about creating some sort of emotional response and that’s not always easy. This album makes it seem easy though, it’s just such a wonderfully enlivening album that I feel I can’t praise it enough as it deserves!
I love Katie Bormann’s vocals there is a delicate edge to them which has a fragility to it which really enhances the emotional feel of the songs. She has a dreamy softness to her delivery that makes me feel like I’m getting a massive comforting hug from her! She may not have a booming stereotypical rock vocal but much like Anette Olzon (Alyson Avenue) she has wonderful soft melodic tone which is so enticing and warm.
The keyboard work on this album is stellar; there are some great hooks and some truly beautiful keyboard lead soundscapes which just hit the right notes with me. Although the album is keyboard heavy the guitar presence is strong enough to give the music some edge and potency without distracting from the beauty of the melodies been created.
It’s obviously inspired by AOR and Melodic rock of the late Eighties but also a lot of the pop rock from that specific era. I did at times feel a bit of Belinda Carlisle from that specific era coming though.
‘Sooner Or Later’ is an amazing album which I can’t recommend enough to fans of melodic rock with one foot in the Eighties. It’s packed full of memorable and catchy songs which are both dance and smile inducing. It will enhance you summer barbeques and have everyone waving their hands and singing along!
