Crazy Lixx – ‘Thrill Of The Bite’

(Frontiers Records)

In what seems a lifetime ago I discovered and enjoyed Swedish Sleaze rockers Crazy Lixx’s second album ‘Loud Minority’ but it was their third album 2010’s ‘New Religion’ that made me an uber-fan of their brand of anthemic sleaze fuelled melodic rock. So, it’s always great to hear new music from the Lixx and ‘Thrill of The Bite’ does not disappoint continuing their trend of delivering high energy and memorable rock and roll.

If you’re already a fan you know what to expect from these guys, one difference I could say is there is a slightly harder guitar crunch, nothing overly significant but their does seem a harder punch added to the delivery. This perhaps harkens backs to the band’s sleazier roots rather than a shift in style.

I eat up stuff like as it really does tick all the right boxes to achieve personal musical satisfaction. It’s a solid album full of energising anthems which are extremely catchy, which demand to be played at full volume repeatedly. It’s highly melodic which is always a must for me and as a songwriter Danny Rexon knows how to write a killer delicious melody. There is loads of attitude and rebelliousness to these songs which will really appeal to Sleaze fans. I’ve always thought the band have more in common with Danger Danger than Motley Crue because of their smoother melodic edge but theirs plenty about the band to appeal to fans of the LA Strip acts of the Eighties.

I’m a big fan of Rexon’s songwriting he knows how to write a rock anthem like no other in the current Melodic Rock scene. It’s totally and utterly from the Eighties in its style but it doesn’t feel dated or retro in the slightest. It’s like the Eighties never ended and Crazy Lixx would have been humungous in 1987 they are certainly a band out of time. Rexon draws his inspiration from so many of the acts of that decade, soft and heavy but they stand on no one’s shoulders.

‘Thrill Of The Bite’ is an instant satisfaction album for fans of Melodic Rock and I seriously suggest genre fans make a beeline for this one. Crazy Lixx have done it again and delivered us another fine slab of invigorating Melodic Rock anthems, so get ready to pump those fists and swoosh your hair (even f is imaginary!) and crank this one up!
