Firefest who announced a return of the Festival in 2016 last December have issued a quick statement saying they have had to cancel the Festival, due to personal and private issues. Nothing has been stated about the future of the Fest, but the statement indicates that doing the Festival this year is no longer possible but reading between the lines it doesn’t rule out a return of the Festival at a later date.

Mitch Malloy has announced an extensive UK tour for this coming September. Including a show at The Robin, Bilston on September 11th, which I’m VERY excited about – especially as I haven’t seen Mitch live before! He has also announced that he will record one of the UK shows for a Live CD/DVD and in even more exciting news Mitch is also writing and recording an all brand new album! Get Excited peep’s!

I’d previously reported that new band Raintimes had wanted to start a Pledge campaign to fund the project, the two main men of the band Pierpaolo Monti and Davide Barbieri have decided not to go down this route. The decision was made as both musicians didn’t like the idea of asking fans to support it without having a sample of what to expect. So they have decided to self-finance the debut album, I fear this may slow down how quickly the album gets recorded but I really respect and fully understand the bands decision. There is positives and negatives to ‘crowd-funded’ websites, personally I’m not a fan of them but understand why many bands turn to them to get albums financed. In more exciting news I’ve found out who their yet to been named singer is! But shhhhh I’m not telling!

Italian AOR-sters Lionville have joined the Frontiers Records roster for their planned third album, which is due to drop later in the year. Their two albums are quality slabs of pure AOR and genre fans should be licking their lips in anticipation for their third! It will once again feature the voice talents of Lars Safsund of Work Of Art fame!

Popular vocalist Jorn is working hard on a new covers album for later in the year. From what I can gather the songs selected will be given a Jorn flavour but the covers will be diverse and surprising and not the style or rock standards you may expect.

Not sure how this one has flown under the radar until now but popular vocalist Jeff Scott Soto has his second album under the Soto moniker ready to fly. It will again be released on earMusic it’s called Divak and it’ll be out in April. It should see a continuation of the harder sound Soto started with Inside The Vertigo and it features the same musicians. Soto hits Europe for a tour in the next couple of months, at the moment there is no UK dates, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled! Here’s the first lyric video from it for the song ‘Freakshow’.

Def Leppard have released a new video for ‘Dangerous’ which is from their brand new self-titled album. Without doubt one of my top track’s off the album (it made my top 40 songs of 2015) but the video is a little lack lustre, given the standard of computer graphics in this day and age, it has retro feel to it and could be straight from 1992, of course this may possibly what the band or promo people were aiming for. Crank it up here!

Welsh Glamster’s Tigertailz entered a song into the Eurovision song contest this year, it was dismissed very quickly which has displeased the band who had high hopes for the song which pays tribute to the seventies era of glam rock. Carrying on regardless the band have released the video for the song ‘Pipped In Popped Out’ which they had already recorded prior to the bands entry been rejected by the British Eurovison team. It’s not what I was expecting at all from the Tailz, check it out below.

The new is this album will hark back to the eighties rock sound (following a couple of disappointing modern/metallic albums this is exciting news) as most of these songs were written back then but never got recorded at the time. A new female fronted melodic rock band Epic will be releasing their album Like A Phoenix later this year on Escape Music. Their sound has been likened to Saraya, Headpins and Witness, so they have definitely grabbed my attention! The album will include the following tracks ‘Love Will Find A Way’, ‘I Can Take You’, ‘Sleepless’ and ‘My Everything’.

I have to say I’m totally underwhelmed about Ace Frehley’s new covers album Origins Vol. 1. It is a collection of songs Ace states are his favourite songs from his musical beginnings, so it includes tracks from The Rolling Stones, Free, The Kinks and Steppenwolf. The album also has some guest appearances from the likes of Slash, Mike McCreedy and Lita Ford. It’s out in April on SPV/Steamhammer, but I think I’ll be giving this one a miss.

Now finally we have a release date for Chris Ousey’s new album Dream Machine so time to get pumped for April 22nd! It’s out on Escape Music and features the tracks ‘This Is The Life’, ‘Tearing It All Down’, ‘Gone Long Gone’ and ‘Return To Me’. All the songs are written by Ousey and Tommy Denander and feature’s Tyketto/Pride man Chris Green on all lead guitars. Very excited for this album which should be one of my top albums of the year!

Italians Danger Zone have signed to Pride and Joy Records for the release for their new album Closer to Heaven in April.

Following the departure of Keyboardist Gareth David Noon Welsh AOR-ster’s Serpentine were unsure about the future of the band. But the remaining members have decided to continue without a Keyboard player and have decided to change their name moving forward to Reloaded. They have new music written as a new unit ready for live performances but will still sneak a few Serpentine tracks into their sets.

Well that’s all the juicy bits of news from the past month; I’ll be back in a month’s time with even more news and gossip from the world of AOR and melodic rock.
