The Fox have definitely delivered the melodic rock goodies with Breathless I was instantly hooked and I am now totally addicted to it. At its core it has the melodic heart of their debut album Under Suspicion, the stronger guitar punch of their The Fire Within album and the superior production of their Under the Seven Skies album all combining to make this album their most complete and impressive body of work to date. It’s full of memorable and stirring choruses, driven and melodic guitars and technical keyboard hooks – For me this a modern day melodic rock classic. It has everything you want from music within this genre and it’ll knock the socks off of established fans and turn the heads of others whilst recruiting new fans easily. It does have a quintessentially British type of a sound but fans of super smooth scandi rock will drool all over this album.

Vocalist Sue Willets is one of my favourites mainly because she has such an emotive voice and style. She always stirs me and gets me invested in songs with total ease, whether it be a simple hook or a massive booming vocal she always delivers and yet again she is on top form and is an absolute star throughout this album.

There’s lots of variety in the songs with every emotion touched upon from feel good sing-alongs to melancholic heart breakers. It’s lyrically very powerful at times and always very easy to connect with.

My favourites change with every listen but I’m sure the ballad ‘Broken Hearted Man’ which is one of the greatest Fox tunes ever, which has shades of Sophie B Hawkins in Sue’s vocal delivery, impressing all genre fans, with ‘Young Hearts’ and ‘All Eyes on You’ keeping fans of upbeat smooth melodic rock happy. One of my fave’s is without doubt though ‘Break These Chains’ with its explosive chorus which sees Sue absolutely killing it and imprinting the song on me with ease with her emotion filled performance.

When it comes to the Fox I do tend to focus on Sue, but Tim Manford delivers a masterclass in melodic rock guitar riffs and there are some really killer keyboard hooks in there that are totally addictive.

Breathless is instantly enjoyable, full of hooks and memorable choruses this is a kick ass record with the Fox delivering traditional sounding melodic rock at its finest!
